Inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, we are inviting YOU to join us for our Tiny Census Concerts, a series of concerts that highlight New Mexico’s favorite creatives in support of participation in the Census!
Each concert brings musicians, dancers, spoken word artists, and visual artists right to your living room. Artists and special guests will help remind us all why your voice truly matters during the important 2020 Census.

HOW TO AUDITION
Submit a link to a recent performance. We have a rolling submission and selection process. Selected talent will be contacted within 48 hours. Limited slots available.
If selected, you will be asked to submit your final performance video which will run during one of the 4 upcoming concert series.
Artists must agree to the promotional terms of the Tiny Census Concert which includes sharing their participation via their social media channels.
All selected artists will be compensated $1,000 for their submitted video performance and the promotion of the event.
The launch is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th, 2020 and will continue Wednesdays throughout April and the beginning of May. Between one week and the next, the previous show will remain available for viewing. Each performance will stream via Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter and the artist will know when their performance will air.

Hakim Bellamy
Before being tapped by Mayor Keller to serve as the Deputy Director of the Cultural Services Department, Hakim Bellamy was the Inaugural Poet Laureate for the City of Albuquerque (2012-2014). Bellamy is a W. K. Kellogg Foundation Community Leadership Network Fellow, a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow, an Academy for the Love of Learning Leonard Bernstein Fellow, Western States Arts Alliance Launchpad Fellow, Santa Fe Arts Institute Food Justice Fellow, New Mexico Strategic Leadership Institute alum and soon to be Citizen University Civic Seminary Fellow (July 2019). In 2012 he published his first collection of poetry, SWEAR (West End Press/University of New Mexico Press), and it landed him the Working Class Studies Tillie Olsen Award for Literature in 2012. With an M.A. in Communications from the University of New Mexico (UNM), Bellamy has held adjunct faculty positions at UNM and the Institute of American Indian Arts. Bellamy has shared his work in at least five countries and continues to use his art to change his communities.

Kevin has been deeply rooted in the Albuquerque music scene since his debut in 2006 with his first band, Asper Kourt. With Kevin as the frontman, the band was chosen by and featured on MTVMusic.com as their, “The Needle in the Haystack," and was featured on The Food Network’s, “What Would Brian Boitano Make?”
Kevin released his debut solo album, “Give It All Away,” in early 2014, an EP, “All You Can’t Control” in March of 2016, and most recently his second full-length LP, "Stubborn Heart" in December of 2019.
Kevin is also the Founder and Director of Rock 101 New Mexico, a music program in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico that aims to educate and empower youth.

Susan A. Clark
Rujeko Dumbutshena
Rujeko Dumbutshena is a Zimbabwean-born dancer, pedagogue, and scholar. She is currently on the dance faculty at the Central New Mexico Community College and the University of New Mexico. Rujeko recently completed her MFA in dance at the University of New Mexico. She teaches neo-traditional and contemporary African dance.
Rujeko has directed African dance conferences and performance and has been invited to be a part of numerous productions, workshops and conferences. Her artistic career was propelled by being an original ensemble member in the Broadway musical production of FELA!. She was commissioned to produce a choreo-poem for the Smithsonian African Art Museum’s African Cosmos exhibit in 2013. In the same year, she became a BAM/De Vos Institute fellow. She was an artist in residence at the University of Rochester in November 2015 and Duke University in April 2016 and 2018. She is a recipient of City of Albuquerque’s 2019 Creative Bravos Award.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Widely known for her unique talent of Beatboxing (producing sounds and beats through her mouth), Ashley is an award winning female beat boxer. She has been a fixture in the hip hop scene from coast to coast performing for Federal and state educational, environmental, and humanitarian aid workshops through the use of non-traditional, alternative music outlets. Ashley’s performances and workshops are directed towards community awareness and development through education and acceptance of alternative music outlets. Her social and cultural workshops include Sequoia Adolescent Treatment Center, Albuquerque Public Schools, Santa Fe Public Schools, The Girls Ranch, Santa Fe Indian School, the YDDC (ABQ Youth Detention Center), and New Mexico Youth Organized. She toured Europe in 2011 with CocoRosie as their beatboxer and was a guest of La MaMa Theater in Manhattan, NY during their annual North American Human Beatbox Festival both years of 2010 & 2011. More recently she was featured in Tom Tom Magazines Museum takeover of MoMa PS1 in Queens, NY and the Brooklyn Museum for The Verbal History Of Female Drummers. Ashley also taught incarcerated teen girls in 2013 how to produce, write and record their own music which was released through the non-profit New Mexico Jazz Workshop. She currently performs and lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico and recently started her own skincare business, Beatbox Beauty Co.

Vicente Griego
From Dixon/Embudo, NM, Vicente has devoted his life to the study of Cante Flamenco, the art of flamenco singing. In 1992, Vicente began touring the US, Canada, and Latin America with the Jose Greco II Flamenco Dance Company, where he was mentored by Caño Roto singer, Alfonso Gabarri, “El Veneno” of Madrid, Spain. He sings for Yjastros, the American Flamenco Repertoire Company out of AlbuRquerque, New Mexico. Griego is the lead vocalist in the Flamenco and Rumba band, ReVoZo and tours nationally and internationally year round and is an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Mexico.

Delphia
Formerly a country-rock singer hailing from Philadelphia, the artist who would become Delphia returned to music in 2016 after nearly a decade of silence. Early in her career, while still a teenager, she had auditioned for the likes of Clive Davis and Quincy Jones, delivered a monologue during a production of Broadway's 'Chicago', and had more than 15 of her songs aired on ABC's 'All My Children', contributing to her Producer and Musical Director winning a Daytime Emmy for Musical Direction.
Now, having found a new voice and a new name, she performs with her Deltones in music venues and theaters across the Western states. In addition, she tours Internationally with New Mexico's own Artrageous. Named Albuquerque's Best Vocalist two years and counting (2018, 2019), Delphia has had the opportunity to arrange for and sing with a 300-piece choir and orchestra for the 2018 New Mexico Philharmonic's Holiday PoPs!, perform at the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend, as well as at over 200 theaters across the country. Her first album 'My Soul Inspiration' peaked at #8 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart.

Jesús Muñoz Flamenco began as a small group with big dreams to pursue original work. The quality of the work has reached world-class stature and reputation with collaboration from prominent artists. The company has performed in respected dance and music venues from the Ford Theatre in Los Angeles to the Cowles Center for dance in Minneapolis as well as other respected venues: Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall, Detroit Institute for the arts, Jazz Cafe at Music Hall, Arvada Amphitheatre, Alegrias in New York City and the Lensic in Santa Fe. The company currently has an annual partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM reaching an estimated 3,000 patrons annually as well as national partnerships and collaborations from Los Angeles to New York City and Minneapolis to Dallas. Muñoz and his partner Amalyah Leader, perform and live together in Barelas, Albuquerque where they direct Flamenco Works, Inc. a non-profit dedicated to youth.

Through the lens of Alternative Latin American music Sol De La Noche connects us with sounds of different cultures around the world and invites us to dance with their high energy and virtuosic performances. Their debut album Al Natural, released in September 2019 has placed Sol De La Noche as one of the top Modern Latin Band acts in Albuquerque, New Mexico resulting in full attendance across multiple venues in the state. Sol De La Noche is proud to have worked with multi-instrumentalist from Morocco Brahmin Fribgaine, oude player and percussionist for world music acts of the caliber of Peter Gabriel and Residente, on their album Al Natural. With over 600 live performances in the last 5 years, Sol De La Noche has opened for multiple acts across a variety of genres, among them Stixx and Los Mocochetes.
The current ensemble of Sol De La Noche is composed of Diego Manrique on acoustic guitar and vocals, Jessica Pacheco on Vocals, Kendall Jones on Electric Guitar, Matt Jaeger on Bass, Mark Gallegos on drum-set, Alex Flores on Trombone and Michael Christmas on Saxophone.

Def-i - Hip Hop, Spoken Word, Contemporary Native-American Acoustic Artist
Hailing from Albuquerque, NM, Def-i represents the Diné Nation. His performance styles range wide from Hip-Hop and Spoken Word to Contemporary Native-American Acoustic. Emerging from the Underground Indy rap circuit, his eclectic repertoire of talent has allowed him to single-handedly perform regularly throughout the country solo or alongside his newly formed live-fusion quartet ‘DDAT.’ With multiple national tours and festivals under his belt, his recent ground breaking 2019 solo project ‘Dream Trails’ received much deserved fanfare & launched him into featured appearances on internationally recognized segments such as Eminem’s XM radio station Shade 45, Sway In The Morning on Shade 45, BBC News, AJ+, National Public Radio (NPR), Vans Warped Tour, RT America, HipHopDX, PBS, Respect Magazine, and a plethora of other Hip-Hop outlets. Def-i was also voted as Best Hip-Hop Artist of 2018 by Weekly Alibi and recently travelled to Nigeria as an Artist-Educator/U.S. Hip-Hop Ambassador in part of Next Level USA's residency program.
Complimenting his diverse musical skill set, Def-i is also an experienced youth workshop provider, active community member, and cultural ambassador. Throughout the past decade, he has worked with many Universities, Colleges, High Schools, Junior High Schools, and Elementary schools teaching creative writing, song recording, the art of beat making, and the fundamentals of Hip-Hop culture. Aside from his dedication to Hip-Hop education, he has also helped environmental movements as an activist in the indigenous community. With the aid of respected artists such as Taboo of Academy Award winning group ‘Black Eyed Peas’ plus other Dream Warriors, Def-i helped raise over 1.8 million dollars for the legal defense of Water Protectors in Standing Rock via live concert fundraising. From years of hard work, selling thousands of CDs hand to hand, building an understanding of the nature of a music grind, Def-i has cemented his name as one of our generations representatives of MC'ing.

Jon Gagan - Bassist
Pat Malone performs with professionalism, versatility and pure energy that captivates and inspires his audiences. Pat has a devoted following in Chicago, Austin and Santa Fe from his live performances, and is a favorite in the studio. Throughout his career, Malone has played with many outstanding musicians, including Pete Christlieb (Steely Dan, Doc Severenson), Bobby Doyle (Blood, Sweat & Tears – CBS), Bill Ginn (Famous Blue Raincoat Leonard Cohen, Jennifer Warren), Eric Johnson, Lonnie Mack, Kim Stone (Spyra Gyra), Mitch Watkins, Spencer Starnes, Peter Rowan, John Mills, Junior Brown, Mike Turk, Jimmy Carl Black (Frank Zappa Mothers of Invention) and Kirk Waylum.
A disciplined student of music since the age of 9, Pat Malone has studied under an impressive list of great teachers. He completed master classes with Jack Cecchini in Chicago, through whom he conducted workshops with many guitarists including Joe Pass and Joe Diorio.

Jon Gagan is best known as bassist for renown guitarist Ottmar Liebert . His distinctive bass style has been an integral part of the Liebert sound since1989, when Ottmar enlisted his services for the now classic "Nouveau Flamenco" album. Along the way Jon has received three platinum and four gold records, four Grammy nominations, and toured in over 20 countries.
In addition to his role as bassist, Jon has written numerous arrangements for Liebert's recordings and live performances. The Luna Negra XL tours of 1997,1999, 2000 and 2001 featured Jon's arrangements for horn section. For 2006's "Winter Rose" tour, Ottmar's ensemble consisted of guitar, bass, percussion and string quartet, with Jon scoring the strings and serving as musical director. In April of 2015, Jon arranged and orchestrated "Ottmar Liebert; Nouveau Flamenco Dream", a full-length orchestra concert performed by Liebert's trio and the New Mexico Philharmonic at Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque.
He continues to tour and record intensively with Liebert. Among recent albums are “Fete”, “305” "The Scent of Light" (Grammy nominee) and "Winter Rose", which includes Jon's adaptations of works by Ravel, Faure and Tchaikovsky.

Larry Michell - Guitarist
Larry Mitchell is a Grammy award-winning producer, engineer and performer who has toured the world playing guitar with well-known artists including Tracy Chapman, Billy Squier, Ric Ocasek and Miguel Bosé. In his original compositions, Mr. Mitchell skillfully weaves guitar textures that showcase his virtuosity as a solo artist and ensemble player.
As a producer-engineer, He’s won a Grammy Award for producing, engineering and performing on "Totemic Flute Chants" by Native American artist Johnny Whitehorse, who is better known as Robert Mirabal. As well as 26 New Mexico Music Awards in various categories from pop, adult contemporary, rap, rock, country World music and Native American music with celebrated artists such as Dawn Avery, Joy Harjo and Shelley Morningsong.Larry is currently touring and promoting his 9th solo release Deja Vu as well as touring with Dawn Avery, Katie Martin and a few select artists.
As a Guitarist, he has made appearances at music stores, colleges and guitars camps all over the world leading workshops on technique, tones and current guitar technology. Larry Started the year off in January 2019 running a guitar jam class for Joe Satriani’s G4 Experience (added last minute) put on by Dreamcatcher Events.
Larry recently appeared as a featured artist at world renowned guitarsit Steve Vai’s Vai Academy 5.0 this past July 29-August 2nd where Larry taught classes in guitar textures. Soloing concepts, guitar effects Usage as well as daily classes in home recording for the guitarists. Followed by a three week master artist residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, with a tour of a Germany, Italy, Costa Rica and Australia in between.

Rosalind Jones - Singer
A native of Chicago Illinois, but over 2 decades a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the co-founder of the Cover Dolls Mentorship for girls and teenagers. She is the Director and founder of Victorious Overcoming Women.
A professional singer and songwriter of Gospel Music and has recorded 2 live projects, That, That it Is and All About Worship. Her music has allowed and still allows her to travel across this nation and abroad meeting and changing the lives of people everywhere she goes.

Chris Dracup is a New Mexico songwriter, guitarist and performer known for his soulful vocal style and masterful electric and acoustic blues guitar. Comfortable in a wide range of musical styles, his acoustic bottleneck playing draws deep from the southern delta blues tradition, and his electric blues is steeped in the Texas and Chicago sounds.
His original songwriting and regular performance schedule have garnered him critical and popular acclaim, earning him an enduring Southwestern fan base. He has been involved with some of the state’s top performing bands, including The Muttz, The Rattlecats, Hillary Smith and Soul Kitchen, and his most recent project Chris Dracup:Funk of the West.

Lara Manzanares - Singer
Lara Manzanares is a bilingual singer-songwriter of Northern New Mexican heritage. Through a combination of storytelling and songs both playful and sincere, Lara draws on her rural New Mexican roots and her urban experiences across the U.S. and abroad as she sings about love, loss, a sense of place, and her own connection to the land. While working as a Census Taker in the previous decennial census, Lara was fascinated by the richness and diversity of human experiences that she encountered, and turned her own experience into a song. Joy Harjo - 23RD POET LAUREATE OF THE U.S. 2019
Joy Harjo is an internationally renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and was named the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States in 2019.
The author of nine books of poetry, several plays and children's books, and a memoir, Crazy Brave, her many honors include the Ruth Lily Prize for Lifetime Achievement from the Poetry Foundation, the Academy of American Poets Wallace Stevens Award, a PEN USA Literary Award, Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund Writers’ Award, a Rasmuson US Artist Fellowship, two NEA fellowships, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Harjo is a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and is a founding board member of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation. She lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she is a Tulsa Artist Fellow.
